Maine To The DL; Mets Should Pursue Penny…

According to David Lennon of the New York Newsday, the Mets have placed RHP John Maine on the 15 Day DL with “shoulder fatigue.” Here is a fascinating quote by Maine in regards to the injury – “It’s nothing serious. It’s just my shoulder is dead.”

What? It’s nothing serious but your shoulder is dead??? I hope Maine was joking with that comment. That’s like saying “I am doing well financially. I just filed for bankruptcy.”

The Mets now need a starter (Oliver Perez is still not ready to come back). The Red Sox are going to trade Brad Penny next week. I smell a match.

Penny dodged bullets tonight against the Yankees and pitched six scoreless innings. Proving he still can get good lineups out. Penny I think would be a successful pitcher in the National League. He certainly would be better at this point than John Niese or Fernando Nieves.

This of course, is just my speculation. But the Red Sox are going to trade Brad Penny (St Louis would make sense too). John Smoltz is ready to come back and they have Clay Buchholz waiting the wings. Penny would fill the hole left by Maine in the Mets rotation.

Good idea however i see washburn is a better canidate especially since the mets could acquire him and a russel branyan to fill their void at 1st. This would solve two problems with one trade.
