According to AOL Fanhouse, the San Francisco Giants have acquired 1B Ryan Garko from the Cleveland Indians for minor-league prospect Scott Barnes.

The Giants were so desperate for offense they were scouting my softball games for hitters. In all seriousness, this move makes sense for the Giants. Garko was batting .285 with 11 HR’s and 39 RBI in 78 games for the Indians this year.

In 2007, Garko hit 21 HR’s and drove in 61 runs for the Indians, so the Giants are hoping Garko can find his power stroke again. Garko will play first and should take over for Travis Ishikawa.

Barnes was the Giants’ ninth best prospect prior to the 2009 season according to Baseball America.
