Last month I wondering where the market was for Joe Beimel? Well, apparently the market for the 31 year old lefty is in Washington. According to ESPN.com, the Washington Nationals signed Joe Beimel to a 1 year $2MM contract.
I was a little surprised Beimel signed with the Nationals. I was expecting him to sign with the A’s or perhaps a team that has a chance to make the playoffs. However, this is a good signing by the Nationals. Beimel, according to Manager Manny Acta will be the Nationals 8th inning set-up man and he will definitely help the Nationals improve on their 10th ranked NL bullpen of 2008.
On a side note, the Nationals also released starting pitcher Shawn Hill. Does this open the door for Jordan Zimmermann to join the Nationals rotation? It sure is looking that way.
